GOTHIK WINDS BIOGRAPHY
The Gothik Winds is the name given to five fellows who it cost an arm and a leg to make a band, and I’ll be exaggerating if I mention it having cost them more. Let’s step backwards and witness the chronology of how the band was created...
On a sunny afternoon in November 2004, a young man came to the university of Hassan II. He was a new student but guess what?! He came for the first time not to register for classes but to get a band together!! This seems ridiculous, but it's obvious since Hicham (the young man's name) was on the edge of madness about metal and singing. Hicham heard of a workshop at the university in which students can register for music or theatre. He went straight to it to become a member, and then seek the rest, and this is how it went: while Hicham was wandering in the English Department lobby, he noticed a guy of an appealing style. They had a little conversation and the member seeker was amazed to discover that the guy, Youness, was a guitarist and a metal head!
The two went on a quest to find other metal heads that could join the band being built. (I was the witness, but from the angle of the mate, not yet the manager!!) Three days later they heard of a guitarist, Abdo, in the English Department who pleasantly accepted the suggestion. A third one was to join the band, SiMo, from the Hispanic Department. But the first problem to be raised was who would play the bass, knowing that the three fellows play the guitar. So one had to sacrifice, and Youness did!
For what is written, what is administrative, and for the lining of the band, a manager was needed, to soften the hardship the band was going through. Hicham discovered that the person to fit this position was Sarah (me, indeed!), the closest friend to the baby band.
A spice was missing to the dish of the Gothik Winds. Without one of the main pillars, a drummer, the Gothik Winds had witnessed a great deal of problems. So many problems, that everybody wanted to give up! But every cloud has a silver lining.
The first rehearsal in the ARTM workshop was pretty good, though using a merely 30Dh mic and a guitar. There has been a lot of sacrifice in order to afford the material needed. The second rehearsal was much better and the third even more so. But as soon as the band started to regain back its life, the ARTM supervisor asked them to leave the workshop immediately because of the noise caused during the rehearsals. Under the blow, Hicham went straight to the challenging workshop “Pouchkin.” The supervisor welcomed the guys enormously and this was when the Gothik Winds started climbing the ladder of success, and with the new drummer, abdeladim,it was even much better.
The first concert of the band was set for the 8th of March 2005 and it was amazing! Fifteen days later another one in the university, and the third in Zefzaf the 28th of March. What a success!
Soon decays started to appear within the band, and getting rid of them was obvious. Abdo and Abdeladim had to leave the band because they seemed to slow down the pace of progress.
With Youssef as guitarist and Hamza as the new drummer for the band, it was a jump for the Gothik Winds indeed! A number of tracks were composed and challenging projects started to appear in the horizon.
The 30th of March 2006 had been the day of glory for the Gothik winds. The 8th Edition of the forum of the creativity of the student welcomed the band for the second time, exhibiting their four originally-made tracks and a cover of deep purple. And guess what, they won the 3rd price !! And they were even asked to participate in the boulevard but they refused.
Now the band is getting ready for the cultural days of the English Department, and going through the two remaining tracks in the album they started making a long time ago!
these are the headlines of Gothik wind's short but success-flavored lifetime, and since it's still stretching, this biography will stretch simultaneously as well, it's -well it was- my job to relate every single inch this band steps, in words and emotions .
